Last night was truly rad.

The weather was rad.
The people were rad.
Our squad was rad (of course).
And the cause was most definitely rad.

Oh, and the dancing... who could forget the RAD dancing.

And the police were moderately pissed off. That was rad.

My favorite part was when we all stopped in front of the police station, which is notorious for not being responsive to hate crimes in the LGBTQ community, and there was this gigantic hummer limo that we were blocking. The driver wanted to run us over sooooooooo badly. hilarious.

The Holy Name 6 benefit

Six activists did a die in at a catholic church, now they're thousands of dollars in debt-apparently church goers are fine with blood as long as it's not on/near them- this was a benefit to help lessen their legal fees.
I only wish we could have done more... although we did rock it pretty hard.

This speak out was organzined by YOUTH for YOUTH! Street based means if you identify as being under age 25, homeless, are runaways, DCFS Wards, HIV positive, gang involved, survivors of police brutality, survivors of sexual assualt, survivors of the mental health system, have had an abortion, fugitives, squatters, sell drugs to surivive, use drugs, are queer, are couch surfin, are disabled, LGBTQAATSI, feminist, activists, butch queens, femme queens, transgender youth, butches, femmes,artist, rioter, involved in any part of the sex trade, rebels, militant fighter, trader, tagger, writer, slam poiet, dreamer, racer, vagbond,rapper, youth of color, girls of color, young parents and girls who are mothers, freestyler, buttonmaker, anarchists, revolutionary thinker, or just plain surviving through the day 2 day hustle and flow of our struggle.... 1/2/08 equal marriage protest

So while there's a a lot of debate about whether or not marriage is a valid thing: Can the state sanction love? Should queers be trying to fit into these straight roles? Which are TOTALLY valid points, and things I struggle with myself; the thing is as long as straight couples are given protections and rights with marriage that queer couples are not, that's a problem. As long as queer people can't keep their partners of different national origins in the country, that's a problem. As long as families are delegitimized by the state's narrow/Christian(Don't even get me started on the separation of church and state) laws we gotta fight for equality. In general, and I'm not sure this is the perfect answer and would love to hear other view points, until we over throw the system I think we need to work as hard as possible to make this one equal.

All that being said: all the cheerleaders wanted to, and did go to a bomb marriage equity rally and mini march. These are some photos I stole from Jessi.

It was a very small gathering, but it felt very mighty. Andy, the man with the quotes and bullhorn let us know how little our presidential candidates have said they will do for queer rights. And if they said so little it's scary to think how little they actually will going to do! Andy and I talked after the march (networking- what? what?) and we talked about how we can't stop putting pressure on candidates, the queer community did that with the first Clinton regime and all we got was don't ask don't tell. I quoted some logic I had just gotten from a statement made by Bill Ayers the night before: no great leaders made great changes because they had passion for them themselves, they simply responded to movements they couldn't ignore (Abe Lincoln responded to the abolitionist movement, FDR responded to the labor movement). The crowd LOVED our cheers couldn't stop congratulating us, and made us (me) speak, which was very discombobulated and cute. We made some new connections, got some new recruits (hopefully), cheered our hearts out, and helped keep some spirits up: I feel fucking rad about it!
